With over 150 years of experience in New Zealand’s legal industry, Lane Neave is a leading national law firm with extensive expertise across both personal and business law.
The firm provides clear and decisive legal advice with a focus on making the complex simple. Most Lane Neave lawyers specialise in a specific area of law, and many are recognised experts in their chosen fields. However, the firm also embraces a team approach that gives it the strength and depth it has become known for among its client base.
Lane Neave focuses on putting people at the heart of the firm every day. Throughout 2022–23, it committed to a people and digital transformation that is continuously being brought to life. This included its recent acquisition of the Culture Amp platform, which has allowed it to measure and manage vital metrics such as employee engagement.
Lane Neave was named Employer of Choice (<100 Lawyers) at the 2023 New Zealand Law Awards. Throughout the previous 12 months, the firm had undertaken a number of initiatives to support its employees through the cost of living crisis, and also focused on promoting health and wellbeing, career support and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
In 2023, Lane Neave was one of only three law firms in New Zealand to make the GradNewZealand Top 100 Graduate Employers list, coming in at second place. It also runs a comprehensive Summer Clerkship program with an emphasis on preparing lawyers for a successful career, offering permanent roles to clerks who complete their studies. Throughout the process, Lane Neave used an affirmative action approach to the recruitment of Māori and other minorities and has adjusted the process to remove potential bias.
Lane Neave is a signatory to the NZLS Gender Equality Charter and the United Nations Women’s Empowerment Principles in New Zealand. It is also a member of DiversityWorks and collaborates closely with the national body on staff engagement, training and a strategic Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) vision.
Over the last year, Lane Neave has engaged with an external consultant to familiarise its staff with the appropriate use of Te Ao Māori and to develop individuals’ confidence and knowledge in using Te Reo Māori. It offers a series of webinars and in-person seminars throughout the year that provide the opportunity to learn about Māori language, history and culture.
Lane Neave takes a strategic approach to pro bono work and volunteering, and its CSR Committee is focused on supporting charities in mental health, social equity and the environment.
